A large number of seniors migrate to southern, warm climates during the winter, providing a substantial boost to the winter destination's economy. This study of 1443 wintering migrants was designed to provide much needed information about what lifestyle factors and risks are important to the migrants and how satisfied they are with the factors both in their winter homes and in their permanent homes. Effects of gender, age and education level on the lifestyle and risk factors are also identified. Findings should help destination managers to better understand the winter migrants' lifestyle and risk preferences to better attract and retain them.

► Migrants were satisfied with more lifestyle and risk items in their winter home.
► Four lifestyle and risk activity factors of winter migrants were identified.
