Effects of sodium dodecyl sulfate on the oriented growth of nesquehonite whiskers

► Nesquehonite whiskers with long length and high aspect ratio were synthesized. ► The crystals changes from rod-like to bundle-like morphology with increase SDS concentration. ► The average length was about 87-180 μm while the aspect ratio was 18-45. ► The temperature and reactant concentration affected the size even the crystal type. ► SDS is beneficial for oriented growth of one-dimensional nesquehonite crystals.
