Analysis of some flexible families of distributions for estimation of wind speed distributions

► We propose the skewed generalized error and skewed t distributions for the description of wind speed data. ► The performance of these distributions is evaluated relative to the Weibull distribution. ► The results indicate that these distributions provide good results over the Weibull distribution. ► These distributions can be alternatively used for assessment of wind energy potential.
