Prediction of aerodynamic noise reduction by using open-cell metal foam

► We model the aerodynamic noise from circular cylinder covered by metal foam. ► Thorough parameter study of metal foam is carried out. ► The noise is reduced effectively without sacrificing the aerodynamic performance. ► The noise reduction is caused by the control of metal foam to airflow. ► This new approach is promising for aerodynamic noise control of high-speed train.
