Implementing standards for the interoperability among healthcare providers in the public regionalized Healthcare Information System of the Lombardy Region

► We present standards in the Healthcare Information System of Lombardy. ► Interoperability guidelines were developed to transmit messages within the region. ► HL7-IHE profiles were implemented to manage messages within single hospitals. ► Citizen's life-long PHR contains CDA release 2 structured documents. ► Standard implementation resulted in a fully interoperable social healthcare system.
