Porous CuO superstructure: Precursor-mediated fabrication, gas sensing and photocatalytic properties

► A facile hydrothermal synthetic route was developed for porous CuO superstructures. ► The porous CuO superstructures exhibit higher sensing response than CuO powder. ► Enhanced photocatalytic activity of the CuO superstructures was also demonstrated.
