Effect of chemical modification on carbon dioxide adsorption property of mesoporous silica

► Synthesis of aminopropyl-grafted, polymer-grafted, and polymer-impregnated silica. ► Excellent thermo-stability and CO2 adsorption capacity for all adsorbents. ► Polymer-impregnated adsorbent has the highest CO2 adsorption capacity (0.98 mmol/g). ► The interaction between CO2 and aminopropyl-grafted adsorbent is the strongest. ► Polymer-modified adsorbents show low adsorption heat below 40 kJ/mol.
