Image formation of a one dimensional polynomial mirror: Numbers and parities of images

► Image of polynomial mirrors, including both real and virtual images, is analyzed. ► The conditions for the formation of multiple virtual images are investigated. ► The parities of the virtual images are investigated theoretically and experimentally. ► A polynomial mirror is approximated as a piecewise set of displaced parabolic mirrors.
