Impact of lens distortions on strain measurements obtained with 2D digital image correlation

► Lens distortions are investigated in digital image correlation experiments. ► Substantial improvement is achieved to determine strain gradients in fibre reinforced composites. ► Substantial impact is obtained for small strain fields. ► Strain accuracy below 200μm/m is achieved in non-optimized lab conditions. ► Comparison is done between single camera and stereo vision DIC.
