Strain, strain rate and velocity fields determination at very high cutting speed

► Flow lines are observed during high speed cutting with a camera system. ► Material flow is modeled through the experimentally determined streamlines. ► Strain and strain rate fields are examined in the severe plastic deformation zone. ► FEM modeling is employed to corroborate the conclusion of the streamline model. ► Experimental strain and strain rate distributions slightly differ from FEM models.
