Effect of a two-step solution heat treatment on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 332 aluminium silicon cast alloy

► Both solution treatment steps increased hardness and strength with reducing ductility of 332 alloy. ► Changes in mechanical properties are related to the changes observed in the silicon-rich phase. ► Effect of refined and spheroidised silicon-rich phase is more pronounced in two-step heat treatment.
