The usage of VoIP services and other communication services: An empirical analysis of Italian consumers

► We examine the early development of VoIP service. ► We investigate on the relationship between the usage of VoIP services and other voice/non-voice communication services. ► The article relies upon a survey carried out among consumers in Italy in 2006. ► The use of VoIP is negatively associated with the probability to use other voice communication services. ► It is possible to detect some degree of complementarity between the use of VoIP and other non-voice (Internet-based).
