Investigating the energy autonomy of very small non-interconnected islands

► The energy autonomy of very small remote islands is investigated in the present work. ► An energy system consisting of renewables and a desalination unit is proposed. ► The proposed system exploits the local biomass, wind and solar potential. ► Based on the results, the techno-economic feasibility of the proposed system emerges.
