Economic transition, urbanization and population redistribution in China

• There is no coordination between urbanization and industrialization in China.
• This could be interpreted from perspective of population redistribution.
• Lack of coordination is demonstrated by the spatial mismatch between floating and Hukou population.
• It is mainly due to the Hukou system which limits urbanization's ability of sustaining population in cities.
