International commitment, post-entry growth and survival of international new ventures

► We analyze the commitment, growth and failure of international new ventures (INVs). ► Among INVs, 'global start-ups' behavior is consistent with a sprinkler entry strategy. ► Global start-ups show a strong initial and rapidly growing international commitment. ► Geographically focused start-ups show features of a less committed waterfall strategy. ► The high failure rate of INVs results primarily from 'liability of newness' problems.
