Analyses of field distributions and undershoots in GMR-type differential readers

► An FEM model with refinements has been proposed to examine the GDR responses. ► The maximum (mean) field increases (decreases) with decreasing gap length in GDRs. ► Pulse and undershoots by FEM simulations and micromagnetic modeling are consistent. ► The origin of the undershoot effect in differential readers has been identified.
