Magnetomechanical training of single crystalline Ni-Mn-Ga alloy

► A 5M single crystal was trained magnetomechanically (A) and in push-pull-concept (B). ► (A) resulted in a reduction of twinning stress by a factor of 2. ► (B) resulted in a decrease of total strain with the stress being unaffected. ► Decay of strain is seen due to the tilt accompanying twin boundary motion. ► Magnetic actuation was seen to be stable down to −25 °C.
