Dependence of decaying homogeneous isotropic turbulence on inflow conditions

► Dependence of decaying homogeneous turbulence on initial conditions is studied. ► Wind-tunnel data of both conventional and multiscale cross grids are compared. ► Analysis show that the normalised energy dissipation depends on the grid geometry. ► The initial conditions dependence extends to the conserved large-scale invariant. ► A clear departure from Saffman and Loitsyansky turbulence in all cases is evident.
