Coupled caloric effects in multiferroics

► A novel conception, coupled caloric effect, has been proposed. ► The coupled caloric effect is enhanced caloric effects originate from the coupling among magnetic, ferroelectric, and structural degrees of freedom. ► The caloric effect in a coupled system consists of pure contribution from each subsystem (ΔSM/ΔSE/ΔSL) and coupled caloric effect (ΔSML/ΔSEL/ΔSME). ► The extra contribution from the coupling greatly elevate the total caloric effect.
