Electrostatic coupling with interfacial free charge in ferroelectric-paraelectric bilayers and superlattices

► We discuss validity of thermodynamic models in ferroelectric-paraelectric bilayers. ► The framework in some publications can lead to obviously incorrect conclusions. ► The invalidity of the theory should be emphasized necessarily. ► An alternative framework is offered in the last part of the Letter.
