Aspects of bifurcation theory for piecewise-smooth, continuous systems

Piecewise-smooth systems may model physical, mechanical, electrical, and biological systems. ► Treatment of bifurcations is complicated by the absence of a center manifold reduction. ► Discontinuity-induced bifurcations analogous to standard, smooth bifurcations are reviewed. ► Nonclassical bifurcations denoted “stability switching” and “shrinking point” are classified.
