Developmental regulation of insulin receptor gene in sciatic nerves and role of insulin on glycoprotein P0 in the Schwann cells

► Schwann cells contain functional insulin receptors. ► The insulin receptor gene is found to be developmentally regulated in sciatic nerves of rats. ► Insulin increases the P0 protein and gene expression in Schwann cells. ► Insulin ameliorates the altered P0 protein and gene expression in Schwann cells under high glucose conditions. ► We report that insulin and its receptors as important regulatory factors in PNS.
