Sequencing and biological effects of an adipokinetic/hypertrehalosemic peptide in the stick insect, Baculum extradentatum

► We have isolated an adipokinetic peptide from the stick insect Baculum extradentatum. ► The adipokinetic peptide in Baculum is identical to that in Carausius morosus. ► The adipokinetic peptide in Baculum has hypertrehalosemic and cardioacceleratory activity. ► A second adipokinetic peptide was found in Baculum. ► In the second peptide the tryptophan reside is modified to kynurenine.
