Caveolae are essential for angiotensin II type 1 receptor-mediated ANP secretion

► Methyl-β-cyclodextrin (MbCD) decreased a number of caveoli in rat atria. ► MbCD increased basal ANP secretion. ► MbCD attenuated stretch-induced ANP secretion. ► MbCD abolished angiotensin II-induced suppression and losartan-induced stimulation of ANP secretion. ► MbCD inhibited the process of proANP to ANP.
