Local inflammatory response induced by scorpionfish Scorpaena plumieri venom in mice

► This study characterized the inflammation induced by Scorpaena plumieri venom (SpV). ► Leukocytes recruitment and TNF, IL-6, MCP-1 secretion were found after SpV injection. ► A previous administration of Aprotinin or Icatibant reduced the local edema observed. ► The edematogenic activity was attributed to kallikrein-kinin system. ► These data could contribute to the treatment of human accidents involving this fish.
