Pharmacological characterization of Synoeca cyanea venom: An aggressive social wasp widely distributed in the Neotropical region

► The social wasp Parachartergus fraternus venom was studied for the first time. ► The LD50 for the P. fraternus venom was 500.5 μg/mice or 16.68 mg/kg of mice. ► P. fraternus venom injected into the hindpaw of Wistar rats induced pronounced dose-dependent oedema. ► P. fraternus venom-induced contractions of the guinea-pig ileum. Captopril potentiated this effect. ► P. fraternus wasp venom presented haemolytic and antibacterial activities.
