Increased proliferation and chemosensitivity of human mesenchymal stromal cells expressing fusion yeast cytosine deaminase

► Expression of fusion yeast cytosine deaminase increases proliferation of CDy::UPRT-MSCs. ► CDy::UPRT-MSCs are hypersensitive to 5-fluorouracil (5FU). ► Chemosensitivity to chemotherapeutic drugs is increased in CDy::UPRT-MSCs. ► CDy::UPRT-MSCs increase 5FU toxicity in human breast cancer cells.
