▶ Individual differences in the elevated plus-maze and forced swim were found. ▶ Rats' anxiety and behavioral despair indexes showed inverse relationships. ▶ Reactivity to aversive stimulation may mediate the relationship. ▶ Open arm exposure is suggested to alter behavioral despair.
