Urbanization, meat consumption, and ritual practices at Veii, 9th-4th centuries BCE: Zooarchaeological findings from Campetti, area Sud-Ovest excavations

- The site shows mostly sheep/goat, pig, and cattle in consumption and ritual (9th-4th c. BCE).
- Period I (9th-7th c. BCE) shows a high numbers of pig and goat, indicating that urbanization was well underway.
- Period II, an urban sanctuary, has mostly sheep/goat but also a variety of other taxa.
- Period II does not show consistency in age, sex, skeletal element, or modifications.
- These data add new evidence for urbanization and ritual in western central Italy.
