The integrational theory of the semiology of writing elaborated by professor Roy Harris constitutes a fundamental contribution for understanding the concept and the function of writing from its origins till now. Yet in defining writing additionally as the integration of human activities, Harris’s theory constitutes a good platform for observing and understanding some little explored functions of the written literary text, in particular the epistemological dimension of literary writing. Epistemocriticism investigates how the written literary text carries and at the same time produces knowledge, as much in the case of the author as in the case of the reader.
