Locative and orientation descriptions in Tarascan: Topological relations and frames of reference

► Preferences in spatial frames of reference (FoRs) in Tarascan are presented. ► The use of body part affixes is excluded from the use of object-centered FoRs. ► Geomorphic and landmark-based FoRs are favored; the use of relative FoRs is scarce. ► Direct FoR is dominant in orientation descriptions under specific conditions. ► The combination of various FoRs in a single locative description is attested.
