Revolution is Evolution: Evolution as a Trope in Šklovskijʼs Literary History

In this article the author examines the use of the term and concept of evolution in the works of Viktor Shklovskii. Attention is also paid to the role Darwin, Lamarck and questions of evolution played in the work of other Formalists and in the cultural life of the 1910s and 1920s.
