Selection of Government Debt Evaluation Methods Based on the Concept of Sustainability of the Debt

Purpose. The main purpose of the paper is to reveal the rationale behind selection of the government debt evaluation methods based on the concept of sustainability of the debt.Methods.The main research methods used are systematization and generalization of the scientific literature, quantitative and qualitative analysis of the primary and secondary data, scenario method.Results.Specific different concepts of sustainability of the government debt are defined. The rationale and arguments of the selection of the government debt evaluation methods are provided. The results of the research show that isolated research, based on the separate method, which in turn is selected because of the specific adopted concept of the government debt sustainability, often is not reliable due to limited interpretation of the government debt sustainability. This contradiction can be counterweighed by the systemic approach to the evaluation of the government debt sustainability.
