Rural Area, Elderly People and the House Breaking Crime

Many crime prevention campaign designs by the policy maker are for urban residential area. However, the rural area that is not regarded as ‘at-risk’ category in which most population are coming from elderly group of people has somehow been left-out from this campaign. The state of Johor has been recorded to have the highest case of house breaking crime in the rural area. Whereby, the area of Batu Pahat is a district area within Johor that started to show increase rate of similar crime over the years, and currently selected as the subject under study. The purpose of this study is to verify home security needs from the elderly group of people that reside in the rural area so that an innovative solution in preventing house breaking crime could be proposed.
