Relation Among Quality of Attachment, Anxiety and Depression in College Students

The aim of the present study was to investigate the relationship between quality of attachment with anxiety and depression in Tehran and Iran Medical Sciences Universities. To accomplish the stated goal 460 students from Tehran and Iran Medical Sciences Universities were selected by means of proportional sampling procedure. The Revised Adult Attachment Scale (Collins, 1996) and Scales of Anxiety and Depression in Symptom Checklist90-R (Derogatis et al., 1973) were used for data collection. Analysis of data with utilization of multiple regression analysis revealed that anxiety and depression of college students could be predicted from the magnitude of their quality of attachment. Moreover, data revealed that students with anxious attachment were higher in depression and anxiety than individuals with a depend attachment (dependability of others). In conclusion it is necessary to mention that findings of the current study are consistent with previous finding and theoretical stance indicating the predictability of mental health indices from quality of attachment in adults.
