The generation of waves by an advancing ship is studied using a moving grid approach. The kinematic boundary condition in the physical curvilinear coordinate system is derived by allowing the particle on the upper boundary to move along the generated curved coordinate lines of the flow field. Thus, the grid is moved along the hull surface. An approach based on the idea of the modified partial differential equation was proposed to discretize a hyperbolic partial differential equation. The computational results obtained using a standard finite analytic scheme were compared with the results obtained using a higher order finite analytic scheme. Convergent steady-state wave profiles for the Wigley hull were compared with experimental measurements.
