Application of low-level beta counting of 32Si for the measurement of silica production rates in aquatic environments

► We describe a 32Si-analysis method using a low-level gas-flow proportional counter. ► Successful field measurements were made using 67-75% less 32Si per sample. ► 32Si measurement prior to secular equilibrium may result a time savings of > 2 months.
