Two copper (II) supramolecular isomers 1a and 1b formulated as [Cu(H2EDC)2]n (H3EDC = 2-ethyl-1H-imidazole-4,5-dicarboxlylate) have been hydrothermally synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. Coordination modes, hydrogen bonding interactions and stacking modes are different in the two isomers. Meanwhile, luminescent properties of the complexes were studied.

The results reveal that 1a presents slipped ABAB… packing mode while 1b contains AAAA…mode.
