The solid-state structure of bis(4′-(4-pyridyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine)ruthenium hexafluorophosphate nitrate – An expanded 4,4′-bipyridine

A convenient synthesis of the ligand 4′-(4-pyridyl)-2,2′:6′,2″-terpyridine (2) is presented and the preparation, spectroscopic and structural characterisation of [Ru(2)2][PF6][NO3] · DMSO containing the metallotecton [Ru(2)2]2+ is reported.
