Two Ag(I) coordination polymers, namely [Ag(L)(p-bdc)0.5]n (1) and [Ag(L)(p-bdc)0.5·2H2O]n (2) (L = 1,3-bis(2-methylbenzimidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene, p-H2bdc = 1,4-benzenedicarboxylic acid) have been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions by different silver(I) salt. Complex 1 is a 2D Borromean entanglement involving 3-fold (6,3) honeycomb networks. Nevertheless, complex 2 display a 1D ladder-like chain structure. Both complexes are ultimately extended into 3D supramolecular frameworks via Ag···O interactions and π···π interactions. The fluorescence and catalytic activities of two complexes for the degradation of methyl orange by sodium persulfate were addressed.
