The hydrothermal reaction of ciprofloxacin (H-Ciprof) with NH4VO3 yields the first hexavanadate complex with ciprofloxacin, V4O10(μ2-O)2[VO(H-Ciprof)2)]2 · 13H2O 1, which is characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, elemental analysis, TGA, UV–Vis and IR spectra. Compound 1 consists of one {V4O12} unit and two corner-sharing octahedral {VO6}-ciprofloxacin units linked through two μ2-O bridges. The antibacterial activity assay results show that its behavior is similar to that of free ciprofloxacin.
