2-Chloro-5-nitrobenzoato complexes of Eu(III) and Tb(III) - A 1D coordination polymer and enhanced solution luminescence

We have isolated an uncommon red luminescent one dimensional coordination polymer of Eu(III) with 2-chloro-5-nitrobenzoic acid as the ligand. Solutions of this complex and of the Tb(III) analog emit in the red and green, with quantum yields which are the highest reported to date with nitrobenzoic acid derivatives as the sensitizer.
