Observation of a water-anion layer constructed from water tetramers and nitrate anions in the crystal host of a cobalt complex

A novel self-assembled layer consisting of water tetramers and nitrate anions has been observed in a cobalt complex. The water tetramers exist in an energetically less stable uudd configuration and are stabilized in the anionic host environments.
