• A new europium fluorous metal–organic framework with pentafluorobenzoate and 1,10-phenanthroline ligands has been obtained.
• The supramolecular structures have been built by π–π stacking and CH···FC interactions.
• The compound presents strong luminescent intensity and moderate emission quantum efficiency.
A new europium fluorous metal–organic framework, [Eu2(OOCC6F5)6(C12H8N2)2(H2O)2] (OOCC6F5 = pentafluorobenzoate, C12H8N2 = 1,10-phenanthroline monohydrate) (1) has been successfully synthesized and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The X-ray diffraction revealed that an infinite one-dimensional ladder chain was created by offset face-to-face π–π stacking interactions between adjacent 1,10-phenanthroline rings. Further inspection of the crystal packing demonstrated that each chain interacts with the other chains through intermolecular CH···FC interactions to form a three-dimensional supramolecular architecture. Luminescent properties have also been studied. Compound 1 exhibits characteristic lanthanide-centered luminescence with a moderate quantum efficiency of 22.5%, suggesting effective energy transfer happened in this Eu(III) compound.
