Synthesis of perfluoro-t-butyl trifluorovinyl ether and its copolymerization with TFE

Perfluoro-t-butyl trifluorovinyl ether (CF3)3COCFCF2 was prepared by the addition of perfluoro-t-butyl hypofluorite (CF3)3COF to 1,2-dichloro-1,2-difluoroethylene followed by dechlorination. The obtained trifluorovinyl ether monomer readily copolymerizes with TFE in the presence of a radical initiator.
