Synthesis and structure of nitrones derived from 2-trifluoromethyl bornane 3-imines

The oxidation of exo-2-hydroxy-endo-2-(trifluoromethyl)bornan-3-imines with meta-chloroperbenzoic acid leads - unexpectedly - to the corresponding nitrones in a stereoselective manner. A mixture of the isomeric oxaziridines was formed upon UV-irradiation of the N-methylnitrone.
