Synthesis of 3,3,4,4-tetrafluoro-1,2-bis(imino)cyclobutanes: A cyclic version of fluorinated α-diimines

A new synthesis of a cyclic fluorinated α-diimine is described. Mg-promoted CF bond cleavage of the trifluoromethylated α-diimine, thermal [2 + 2]-ring closure, and the subsequent oxidation gave the tetrafluoro-1,2-di(imino)cyclobutane.
