Embodied Design Thinking

This article explores the thought processes of design thinking as an embodied process of experience. This conceptualization frames design thinking as an outcome of mind that functions as brain-body-in-the-world. To think, the mind expands propositional meaning to become a form of embodied, experiential meaning. The process of the conceptual blending together with the integration of embodied mind and embodied meaning give rise to embodied design thinking, a process that seeks to resolve qualitative differences in transformative situations. To understand embodied design thinking, the article considers examples in cybernetic systems, contemporary cognitive science, poetry, and literature. It also distinguishes between complexity in culture and complexity in nature.
