Phthalimide-N-sulfenyl chloride in the Ti-catalyzed asymmetric sulfenylation of β-keto esters

The enantioselective sulfenylation of β-keto esters was carried out using phthalimide-N-sulfenyl chloride in the presence of a Ti(TADDOLato) catalyst affording up to 60% ee. X-ray crystal structures of product compounds 3a and 9a were determined.
