Study on Chinese consumer attitudes on energy-saving household appliances and government policies: based on a questionnaire survey of residents in Chongqing, China

Promoting the use of energy efficient household appliances is one of the important approaches in building an energysaving society. Government policies play important role in this process. The research findings reveal that Chinese consumers have relative high awareness of energy challenges and of Chinese government incentive polices in a general level, and a high rate of agreeing that people should change their behaviors. However, the respondents lack clear information and knowledge of these challenges, of government policies, and of the roles they can play for energysaving. Sacrificing comfort levels in order to achieve energy savings is not likely a choice, especially for younger people. The policy implications of these findings are discussed.
